Experts believe that various diets work better for different people. It all depends on the type of bacteria we possess in our gut.

Do you know a person who is able to lose weight just by considering going on a diet? In the meantime, you also know someone who has been following a professional program for weeks or even months, but seems to lose only around 1 pound, for every 5 pounds the other person loses?

It can be frustrating at times. It may even convince you that going on a diet don’t really work. But the truth is, each body works and reacts differently. The composition of the gut is a huge factor.

One recent research examined feces samples from 57 participants. All patients were going on either an average Danish diet or a New Nordic diet (with tons of veggies, fruits and whole grains).

Experts discovered that patients with a greater amount of Prevotella intestinal bacteria in comparison to Bacteroides intestinal bacterial were able to lose roughly 7 pounds as they went on a New Nordic diet, against the Danish diet.

Interestingly, there wasn’t any weight loss difference concerning both dieting groups in patients with lesser Prevotella.

The Meaning of the Research

The point of the said research was really simple.

The usual dieting advice was successful and effective for those with certain levels of gut bacteria. However, half of the participants did not benefit from the said advice.

There is totally no “one-size-fits-all” method when it comes to weight loss and weight management. Some individuals may find a method that works well for them but doesn’t work well for others. This is the reason why it is important to find the personalized method that will work best for you.

It would be amazing if we could all follow a single list of do’s and don’ts when it comes to losing weight. Unfortunately, this is not possible.

In light of these facts, we must be reminded of how impactful the human gut is and how it affects our overall well-being.

Other Factors to Consider

The findings are fascinating. But is it really that simple? Is sending a stool sample to a laboratory is enough to discover which diet is right for you?

Well, not really.

The results indicate that those who have great levels of Prevotella-to-Bacteriodes bacteria in the gut are able to lose more weight as they consume a lot of dietary fibers. Those with low levels of Prevotella-to-Bacteriodes bacteria, however, are not able to experience the same results.

Currently, there are no ready-to-use test kits available on the market that can help everyone identify which groups they fit in. But we can look forward to something like this in the future.

However, there are still a lot of factors that could be considered in order to improve your gut health and identify which diet or lifestyle works for you.

If you think that your dieting efforts are not reaping any good results, it is essential to pay your doctor a visit and go through every single area of your lifestyle. After all, sleep, stress, and exercise can heavily impact the results you are seeing.
